As part of their ‘Bridges’ topic, Year 6 enjoyed a trip to Gateshead and Newcastle Quayside to explore the 7 bridges crossing the River Tyne. First they were lucky enough to open and close the Millenium Bridge so a Navy vessel could pass under, with Natalia and Syke pressing the important buttons! When the bridge reopened the whole class announced it to visitors to the Quayside via a loud speaker. The children then enjoyed an interesting tour underneath the bridge to learn about how it is tilted. This was educational and so much fun! Our tour guide, the Bridgemaster Tony, was fantastic and full of amazing facts.
After our tour we headed over the Millennium Bridge and along Newcastle Quayside to sketch and learn about the other 6 bridges. Fortunately we had a lovely sunny, if cold, morning so could study the bridges carefully. What a great morning!
