Year 1 school visit to Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens

Today Year 1 visited Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. We had the opportunity of walking around the museum, learning about the history of coal mining in the local area, glass making, embroidery and much more! The children enjoyed looking at the many items on display to show them the history of the North East.

We then visited the Winter gardens, hunting for the dinosaurs in the plants and watching the amazing tropical fish in the pond.

In the afternoon, we met Marie who works at the museum, who told us all about the history of clippers mats and how they were used. We were all then able to start making our own small clippy mat to take home!

We all had a wonderful day and look forward to doing more work with our clippy mats in class next week.
