This week the children have been studying Judaism and learning about Hanukkah. They have learnt about the story of the oil lamp in the Temple as well as ways that the Jewish community celebrate the Festival of Lights.
The children thought about their families in today’s collective worship. They thought about who is part of their family and why they are special to them. The children helped plan and set up the collective worship.
Reception class have begun their journey in learning to read and write. Each morning they follow Read Write Inc phonics and practice the sounds they learnt throughout the day. They have made an excellent start and Mrs Wadey and I are very proud of them all.

This week in RE the children are learning all about ‘Family’ and understanding how we all have a family name. The children participated in various name activities and below are some photographs of their decorated initial.
This week in class the children are focusing on number recognition in Maths. They have combined their number skills with technological skills by counting the spots on the lady birds and moving them to the leaf that shows that number.
This week at cookery club the children had fun making pizzas. They cut the ingredients then selected which ingredients they wanted to make their pizza, before cooking it.
The children in reception class have been having lots of fun settling in, meeting their buddies from year 6 and here are some of their very first school memories.
Today Year 1 visited Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. We had the opportunity of walking around the museum, learning about the history of coal mining in the local area, glass making, embroidery and much more! IN Year 1 we have been investigating capacity and volume and which measuring jugs and beakers hold the most or least amount of water. We used words in our investigation such as full, half full, empty, smaller, larger, taller and shorter. We enjoyed our investigation and finding out how to complete the test fairly.
